Summer Training Schedule
June - August: Athletes should begin running at least 4-5 times per week. Remember to hydrate. It’s too hot during the midday hours, so plan to run before 7 A.M. or after 8 P.M. By the first team conditioning day on June 16th, you should be able to run 15 minutes without stopping. You know your limits. Athletes may run more throughout the summer if they are conditioned. ** Official KHSAA sanctioned practices begin on July 15, so while the team meetups before that date will serve as conditioning, and are highly recommended, they are not required.
We do understand this is summer break and families will be traveling, come when you can and if you are traveling try to get in some runs on your own. **(Dead period begins on June 25-July 9)

Expectations/Tryouts
We expect runners to come to the team fundraiser which will serve as the first tryout. Register at Blazing Blue Devil 5K (runsignup.com). It is on August 8. Info is on the link.
To be on the team, males must be under 30 minutes for the 5k. Females must be under 34 minutes. Why? We have a limited number of uniforms.
If you cannot make it to the race, you will need to contact us. From there, we will take the top 21 boys and top 21 girls from both days to fill out our roster. If someone is cut, depending on the number of uniforms we have, coaches may ask a runner to join the team after uniforms are distributed.
At the August 15 evening practice, bring a check or cash for $75 to cover insurance and fees. Checks should be made payable to Henry Clay Cross Country.
All remaining weeks of the season will continue with the following schedule:
Monday—7:15 P.M. Locations will be announced.
Tuesday—7:15 P.M. Locations will be announced.
Wednesday—7:15 P.M. Locations will be announced.
Thursday—7:15 P.M. Locations will be announced. We most always meet off-campus for a long run.

In Season Expectations
Practices
Athletes are expected to attend practices and meets. Coaches understand that things come up. We get that. The same thing happens to us and our schedule. However, always let the coaches know when you are not able to attend practice. Communication is key. When you fail to notify us, you are showing us that you do not care.
Meets
Athletes are expected to attend meets. Those who miss more than three meets during the season should plan to turn in their uniform.
Why are we saying these things?
Because if you are not running, you will eventually get injured. You need to be consistent and trained throughout the entire season.
